Level 1This self-paced course introduces educators to the unique characteristics and needs of gifted students from culturally and linguistically diverse populations. You will investigate teaching strategies used to develop talent, multiple pathways to gifted identification and best practices for increasing cultural competence within schools and systems. Additional topics include language acquisition (and its effect on talent development), data, culturally responsive assessment, and the role of the educator.

Level 2This course builds upon Level I content and takes theories, concepts, and research regarding assessment, language acquisition, literacy development, and teaching strategies and puts them in to practice.
AUthentic assessment, academic vocabulary, increasing rigor for CLD students, and simple differentiation strategies are included. Risk taking and implementation of new ideas is expected and welcome! |
Level 3Educators will explore, plan for, and implement teaching strategies that are culturally responsive & rigorous. Current practices will be adapted with the aim of building critical thinking and cognitive academic language proficiency (CALP) in students from diverse backgrounds. Educators will also engage in a case study focusing on talent development.
